Mourning Cloak biography
Based in Glenville, Pennsylvania, Mourning Cloak were an American psychedelic folk group founded in the early 1990s by multi-instrumentalist Timothy Renner of Stone Breath. From 1995 to 1999, the project released three albums and an EP of their spectral, atmospheric folk influenced by Coil and Current 93 as much as the likes of Clive Palmer and C.O.B., Pearls Before Swine, Forest, Leonard Cohen, Comus, the Trees Community and the Incredible String Band.

Renner handled vocals, acoustic guitar, sitar and bass, among other instruments, featuring a series of collaborations with experimentalists like Tranquil's Paul Chavez, P.J. Dorsey, Bobby Campbell and noise legend Lasse Marhaug. In 1997, Mourning Cloak contributed a cover of I Shall Not Care for the Pearls Before Swine tribute compilation For the Dead in Space, and a rendition of Throbbing Gristle's United for a similar collection, We Hate You.
