Cruel Wonders biography
Cruel Wonders are an Israeli neofolk band, formed in 2012 by old friends Vlad Shusterman and Zeresh vocalist Tamar Singer. The duo, split between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, are a self-described "folk noir" project blending influences from doom metal, ambient music, darkwave and progressive rock. Shusterman and Singer wield electric and acoustic guitar respectively, and their atmospheric, post-metal-aligned style has attracted comparisons to artists like Darkher, Wovenhand, Dead Can Dance and Chelsea Wolfe.

In 2017, Cruel Wonders independently released their debut LP, Gentle Doom, to positive reviews, with nearly all tracks featuring European and Russian poetry set to song. The duo contributed a cover of "The Bad Luck Bird" by neofolk progenitors Sol Invictus for a compilation tribute, and Cruel Wonders' sophomore LP, Clay Vessels, was once again self-released in late 2021, a loose concept album addressing Jerusalem's destruction through the prism of the Book of Lamentations and featuring a guest appearance by Albireon's Davide Borghi.
