Doldrum biography
Hailing from Denver, Colorado, Doldrum are an American avant-garde black metal trio formed in 2020. Known only by their pseudonyms, Doldrum consist of vocalist Rat Deveaux (of black metal band Gallows), guitarist/bassist Jimmy Oh-My-Back (the mastermind behind Erraunt and formerly of Vpaahsalbrox) and drummer The Terrific Don McKinnon (also of Gallows and formerly of Vpaahsalbrox). Blending the intrepid experimentation of Ved Buens Ende and Master's Hammer with the theatrical storytelling of Ashenspire and A Forest of Stars, Doldrum are a conceptual project "using 19th century American Spiritualism and superstition as a lens to focus on a loose concept of a family terrorized by a haunting," in the band's words.

The group made their entrance in late 2020 with a two-song demo, with both tracks rerecorded for their debut LP, The Knocking, or the Story of the Sound That Preceded Their Disappearance, released by Katafalque in 2022.
