Domi & JD Beck biography
Domi & JD Beck is the name, commonly stylized as DOMi & JD BECK, of the hip, genre-transcending musical duo of French keyboardist Domitille "Domi Louna" Degalle and American drummer James Dennis "JD" Beck. Despite their different cultural and educational backgrounds, they found each other in 2018 through their shared musical interests and experiences as child prodigies who both learned to play their instruments at a very young age. The two found their way into the limelight starting from their very first performances as a band in 2019, collaborating and touring with a remarkable number of high-profile and stylistically varied artists such as pop singer Ariana Grande, hip-hop artist Anderson .Paak, R&B/soul bassist Thundercat, jazz fusion multi-instrumentalist Louis Cole and progressive rock band Chon. The group's debut album Not Tight was released in 2022 on .Paak's Apeshit label and featured .Paak and Thundercat in addition to jazz fusion legends Herbie Hancock and Kurt Rosenwinkel as well as hip-hop superstars Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes.

The duo's music has been variously described as jazz fusion, future jazz, jazz hop, jazzstep, nu jazz and neo-soul, but is perhaps best summarized as a contemporary celebration of the African American musical tradition in all its divergent forms. Despite a heavy coating of hip-hop and modern electronic music genres in its production and arrangement and in the styles employed by most of the guest vocalists, the group's music is very clearly founded on the harmonic and rhythmic language of jazz and should appeal to fans of Weather Report, Knower, Brand X, Sungazer, The Comet Is Coming, Jacob Collier and the 1990s oeuvre of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and Squarepusher. With their amazing virtuosity and their playful, postmodern attitude, DOMi & JD BECK can proudly count themselves among the pioneers carrying jazz into the 21st century.
