Siderean / ex Teleport biography
Formed in 2010, Siderean are a Slovenian progressive death metal band from Ljubljana, originally known as Teleport for their first ten years. Teleport began as the trio of guitarist/vocalist Jan Medved (of Slugpit), bassist Lovro Babič and drummer Fedja Sićarov, performing a blackened form of sci-fi prog-thrash heavily inspired by Vektor, Coroner, Atheist and Voivod. From 2010 to 2018, Teleport issued three demos and an EP, experiencing evolutions in sound and lineup until the only original member left was Babič, surrounded by Matija Dolinar (of Assumption and Kamra), vocalist Jan Brisar (aka Noč) and drummer Darian Kocmur.

The 2018 demo The Expansion, released by Caligari Records, was a snapshot of the band on the threshold of creating a new sound, catching the attention of Edged Circle Productions, which signed them and reissued it the following year. With Teleport's debut full-length in the making, the quartet faced a lawsuit brought on by a disgruntled former member after they refused to readmit him or split Teleport's trademarks 50/50. Rather than going to court - and to mark their new stage as a unit - the group rebranded as Siderean in 2020, adding Darian's guitarist brother David, and issued Sidereal Evolution, a pre-production demo of tracks from the upcoming LP which served as a reintroduction of sorts.

Moving away from Teleport's Voivodian themes of galactic war, Siderean's lyrics focus on "grand themes of humanity and the cosmos at the forefront, and the mystery of what lies beyond deep space and human perception always lurking in the mix," as they explained in an 2021 interview. Siderean's debut, Lost on Void's Horizon, was mastered by Horrendous' Damian Herring and released in 2021, with their sophomore attempt, Spilling the Astral Chalice, following in 2024 and mastered by Cosmic Putrefaction's Gabriele Gramaglia. Both demonstrated Siderean's new cosmic dissonant death metal style, now inspired by Gorguts, StarGazer, Morbus Chron, Ved Buens Ende and Virus, along with elemental krautrock bands Tangerine Dream and Popol Vuh and modern jazz-fusion artists Mary Halvorson and Yussef Dayes.
