Abstraktor (Абстрактор) biography
Abstraktor are a progressive rock quartet from Voronezh, Russia, established in late 2016 by vocalist/pianist Yaroslav Borisov and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Ivan Sukharev, collaborators since 2010. The duo recruited drummer Alexander Bityutskykh - who also performs with Borisov in Droogoe Delo, ЦЁЙ and avant-prog unit Happy55 - and added bassist/synthesist Oleg Salkov (also of Droogoe Delo) at the end of 2018. Abstraktor's name is a portmanteau of "abstraction" and "tractor": "abstraction as a means of artistic expression and a tractor as the most striking symbol of a modern village," to quote the band.

Despite their self-description as progressive folk, Abstraktor are listed under Crossover for further weaving Western-styled indie rock, jazz-fusion and RIO-leaning modern classical into a vibrant and energetic prog-pop tapestry, showcasing original compositions along with interpretations of traditional Russian and Ukrainian folk songs. Abstraktor's live performances earned them accolades for best experimental/up-and-coming act at 2017's WORLD of Siberia Festival and 2018's Russian World Music Awards.

Abstraktor digitally released their eponymous debut LP in 2018 through Voronezh label ТАКИЕ, and later put out their 2024 follow-up, Мать, on limited edition vinyl via the Moscow-based Драгоценность.
