JeGong biography
JeGong are a Swiss-American post-rock project consisting of Reto Mäder (aka RM74; member of Sum of R and Ural Umbo) and Dahm Majuri Cipolla (of Mono and the Phantom Family Halo). The two met while on tour, with Mäder's Sum of R and Cipolla's current project Watter sharing the bill on a show while making their way to the 2019 Roadburn Festival. After Cipolla asked to borrow Mäder's drums for the evening, the two struck up a partnership based on their mutual interests in experimental music, soundtracks and krautrock legends like Can, Neu!, Tangerine Dream and Faust, and eventually decided to work together after arriving at Roadburn.

Taking their band name from a track on the Dieter Moebius and Mani Neumeier collaborative LP Zero Set II, JeGong perform mostly-downcast ambient instrumentals similar to Mogwai's work from 2011 onwards. The duo signed to Pelagic Records in 2020, with their debut album I following a couple months later, constructed remotely due to the global coronavirus pandemic, recorded between Martin Bisi in New York and Mäder's Hinterzimmer Studios in Bern. JeGong's sophomore LP, The Complex Inbetween, arrived in 2023, produced similarly to its predecessor but with Watter's Zak Riles filling in for Bisi and Mäder and Cipolla finally collaborating in person. JeGong returned to the site of their conception for their live debut at the 2024 edition of Roadburn.
