Descartes a Kant biography
Founded in 2001 in Guadalajara, Mexico by artist/composer/multi-instrumentalist Sandrushka Petrova, Descartes a Kant is an ensemble whose genre boundaries are only defined by the mood they intend to convey by their chosen theme. When looking at the bands name, the deduction that the artistic themes they pursue are rooted in varying ethical philosophy approaches to modern existence would be a correct one. These themes are not only a musical conveyance, but become full performance art in their live shows; which are punctuated by elaborate stage sets, costumes, and choreography.

Stylistically, Descartes a Kant's first three releases start with a stew based of punk disenfranchisement, spiced with a potpourri of styles from rockabilly to jazz to vocal pop with an eclectic-era Mr. Bungle-esque avant-garde complexity of composition. In 2023 they released their arguably most "accessible" album, to that point, After Destruction.

The lineup, which Petrova started as an all-girl band, has gone through a number of changes through their over 20 year existence, with as many as 8 listed members by the time of their 3rd release, Victims of Love Propaganda. At the time of this writing, the band had pared down to 4 members for the 2023 album, After Destruction. With Petrova joined by Ana Cristina Mo on guitar, synth and vocals, Memo Ibarra on bass and synth, and Jorge Ch�vez on drums.

The band now centers its activities in Mexico City.
