One-Off reunion in 2008

A union of established, and for the most part renown Canterbury, musicians, playing improv jazz, which might, (considering the presence of 'rock in opposition' pioneers HOPPER and WYATT), be also be thought as a type of RIO and clearly jazz fusion. Originally an all-star line-up convened and recorded for a BBC radio project, subsequently radically reworked by Hugh Hopper. To quote their own press release: "Each player has developed their work across a wide range of attitudes, honing their craft into a unique and individual voice. Strong, subtle and surprising in its diversity, accessing groove and forward-motion rhythm as well as sound-as-sound and instant composition, CLEAR FRAME is a multi-layered and dynamically shifting music that is forever in the moment".

Line-up includes:
Charles HAYWARD (drums) , best known here probably for his work with Quiet Sun. He has also worked as a member of THIS HEAT and CAMBERWELL NOW. More recently his solo projects have involved BILL LASWELL and FRED FRITH (collectively known as MASSACRE!).

Lol COXHILL (soprano saxophone) has long been acknowledged as a major European jazz innovator, but his career has taken in stints with musicians as diverse as KEVIN AYERS, (the late, English) STEVE MILLER and EVAN PARKER.

The anchor man for SOFT MACHINE at it height, he subsequently played with STOMU YAMASH'TA, ISOTOPE, SOFT WORKS, CAVEMAN HUGHSCORE, SOFT MACHINE LEGACY as well as guesting with many other bands (from rock to hard jazz).

Orphy ROBINSON (steel drums, vibes, percussion, electronics). An acid jazz pioneer, former sidesman with COURTNEY PINE and JAMAICA ALLSTAR who brings a new dimension to the music of CLEAR FRAME.

Robert WYATT (cornet) guests, having introduced the quartet to the London Jazz Festival audience in 2004.

The eponymous first album is promised to be the first of several new releases and back catalogue reissues by leader Charles ...
