Virgule IV biography
A very obscure female quartet from France playing a style of music that sounds like a weird mix of Etron Fou Leloublan and Tom Waits, but still not really recalling any of them. Heavy on the bass, vibes and percussions, with occasional sax and cello parts and vocals from every member of the group. During their fairly shortlived career, they released one LP, "Des Accords D'Accord", in 1988 and is most likely very hard to find these days. Not too difficult listening, although it does display a typical RIOistic sound overall.

The following additional information was provided by CPicard:

VIRGULE IV was a all-female French quartet created in the mid-eighties by keyboard player Cathy Valade (former Kool Gool), drummer Isabelle Lentin (sister of the drummer Dominique Lentin) and cello player Françoise Morel under the moniker Virgule III. Soon, the three musicians were joined by bassist Christiane Cohade (former I) and became Virgule IV.

A first LP was recorded in 1985 in the Cold Storage Studios and produced by Charles Bullen (This Heat), but it wasn't released until 1988 by Musea. Before this first and only LP, the band also appeared on three compilations : 'Bad Alchemy Vol. 4' (Bad Alchemy - 1986), 'Douze pour Un, Vol. II' (AYAA - 1987), 'Festival MIMI 1986' (Inouï disques / AMI - 1987).

Virgule IV played in several festivals : Musique de Traverses (1984, Reims, France), Musique Action Internationale (1985, Vandoeuvre-Nancy, France), Festival MIMI (1987)

'Des accords d'accords', their sole LP, had been compared to Captain Beefheart and Etron Fou Leloublan, with a very personal approach and the 'funky' style of Christiane Cohade. Nevertheless, the quartet soon disbanded and its members went to others projects.

Christiane Cohade worked with Dominique Lentin in the band L'Empire des Sons (one CD: 'Le Saucisson des mers' - Musea, 1992). She also recorded with Ferdinand Richard, Guigou Chenevier, and Dominique Lentin.

Isabelle Lentin and Françoise Brobst (formerly Morel) have recorded three CDs under the name Voé (discograhy on the label SMI)
