Academie Of FarSide biography
If you are familiar with bands such as DISCUS or KEKAL, then ACADEMIE OF FARSIDE (AOFS) is among the next groups in line that can expand your horizon into the tricky, unusual, fully exotic Indonesian Prog Music. There's hardly a drop of traditional, long-time overheard progressive rock - what we're getting instead could likely be described as an explosive formula of proggy improvisations, alternative pop, jazzy-spirited rock, experimental/freestyle moods, and much more. The band itself mentions the high affinity for improvs and playing on stage, completed by a tendency towards "pure" music, "without following other known music genres".

The history of this band started in mid-2003, going through numerous mutations and challenges ever since. Its founder, simply called Wildstix (Oka), initiated a sort of college project called TREEBEARD, after departing from the DT-cover band called MIRACLE (possibly the same band that's highlighted on this site). The main style shift, in Wildstix's vision, was from metal to much more experimental, progressive music. The original quintet of Treebeard was: Wildstix on drums, guitarist Faisal (also from Miracle), keyboardist Yessi, bassist Sem, and Lisa as vocalist. But with so many changes throughout 2003 and early 2004, by the time the first album, Windig Notes, was finished, Treebeard consisted of Rizky Wirastari (guitar?), Ardan (bass) and Anton (keyboards), alongside Wildstix. Soon after, Angga Tarmizi from VENUS BULLET, a friend of the lead musician, came with the final name for the project: Academie of FarSide.

Between the debut and the second album, BRADAKOOM!!!, at the end of 2006, AOFS concerted either in the form of local performances or as guests in more popular festivals (Prog Nite, Ngayogjazz), surprising the audience most of the times. Still, their journey continued to be plagued by frequent departures, especially in the keyboard section. The 2006 album's lineup consisted of Wildstix, his cousin Handoko (Pronky?) on bass, Rizky still on guitars, and Agung Nugroho (Devo?) as keyboardist. Cloverdiva is mentioned as guest vocalist to this day. The last years have been rough, the band's main current concerns being to fill in, once again, the keyboard player spot, and to finish recording a new single.

Despite the fact that AOFS might test your faith in progressive contemporary rock, they combine nonetheless lots of style-driven materials, emphasizing the soft spot for ...
