Jeffrey Naness biography
Jeffrey Naness is a native of Long Island, New York. He was born in 1967.

His 2008 album, Surfing The Solar Winds, is comprised of 11 instrumental pieces. The CD is available via CDBaby.com, as well as numerous other web retailers and digital download sites. All the pieces are also available for free streaming here at Prog Archives.com. In 2004, Jeffrey had released Frenetic Passages, which was an EP comprised of 5 pieces, all of which are included in Surfing the Solar Winds. Frenetic Passages is currently out of print. Frenetic Passages was also released via CD Baby.com.

Jeffrey music is inspired by old Rush and synthesized J.S. Bach. His idea was to fuse the counterpoint of J.S. Bach with the aggressiveness of Rush. His two favorite pieces of music are Rush's La Villa Strangiato from their Hemisphere's album and Don Dorsey's realization of the Fugue from J.S. Bach Toccata and Fugue in D Minor from Dorsey's Bach Buster's album.

Surfing The Solar Winds took approximately 15 years to complete. This was due to several reasons, including the fact that he was employed full-time as a labor attorney with children while working on the music. But, it was also due to his preference to take his time to consider how he wanted to proceed in a particular piece, as well as the learning curve in figuring out the technology he was using.

Jeffrey's approach is different than many progressive rock artists in that he worked alone on the project and all the music was created using computers, samplers and synthesizers. In that respect, Jeffrey might be considered an "electronic musician". However, the music itself does not fit within the electronic genre as conceived in the Prog Archives.com database. Rather, the music has a largely rock feel with substantial progressive flavor.

Jeffrey is not alone is using new computer technology to create progressive rock music. In fact, he believes that new technology is perfectly suited for creating a new generation of progressive rock music that can benefit from the possibilities afforded by this new technology.
