The Mass biography
THE MASS is a progressive metal band from Oakland, California consisting of Matt Waters (lead vocals, sax), Tyler Cox (drums), Tom O'Donnell (guitar) and Matthew Solberg (bass).

They recorded and released a five track self titled EP in 2002 on Whole Enchilada Records.

In 2003, THE MASS released their debut album "City of Dis" in Europe/UK on Monotreme Records. "City of Dis" would be re-released in Northern America in 2005 on Crucial Blast Records.

In 2005, they released their second full length album "Perfect Picture of Wisdom and Boldness" in Europe/UK on Monotreme and the US on Crucial Blast Records.

In March of 2006, Andy Lund joins the band on bass.

In 2007, they self released an EP "Holocene, #6."

"City of Dis," "Perfect Picture of Wisdom and Boldness," and "Holocene, #6" were produced by Tim Green (THE F**KING CHAMPS, UNWOUND, DONNAS, MELVINS) at famed Louder Studios. Bass, drum, and guitars are all recorded live (with a very few guitar overdubs) and then vocal and sax recorded to tape without digital editing.

THE MASS is an intelligent hybrid of hardcore, metal and jazz with jagged rhythms and mad sax breakdowns. They should be a welcome addition to fans of SHELLAC, MELVINS, SWEEP THE LEG JOHNNY, MR. BUNGLE, FANTOMAS, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, NOMEANSNO, CREEDLE, YAKUZA, SIGH, JOHN ZORN, and FRANK ZAPPA. They were approved by the Prog Metal Team and are very highly recommended!
