Ataxia biography
ATAXIA was a one-off project that started and ended in February 2004, with Joe Lally, Josh Klinghoffer and John Frusciante the musicians involved.

In two weeks they recorded anough material for two records, and held two concerts. After this they had finished what they accomplished to do with this excursion, and returned to what they were doing prior to Ataxia.

The point of this project was to create material without a planned order - the band name is the Greek word for disorder - and the only planned element of the songs created were the lyrics. They had written down the words to be used for each song; but not where and how to implement them. The recording sessions were totally improvised; with the bass guitar as the constant foundation for guitars, drums and vocals to play upon; and with guitar and drum movements mostly taking their cues from the vocals.

Besides the two concerts given, enough material was recorded for a CD, released in August 2004 as Automatic Writing. In 2007 a second CD, containing leftover material, was issued as AWII.
