Tin Huey biography
Founded in in Akron, Ohio in 1972 (originally known as Rags) - Disbanded in 1982 - Reformed between 1999-2008

The roots of Tin Huey, the band which is often associated with both experimental and progressive rock as well as new wave, could be traced back to 1972: the band called RAGS, a sort of a power trio, was including future TIN HUEY members - Mark Price (then on guitar), Michael Aylward (bass) and Stuart Austin (drums). After Mark had left the RAGS, the band changed its name to TIN HUEY, after Michael's younger brother. They were an acoustic band for a brief period, and they electrified themselves again when Price rejoined the band, swapping instrument duties with Aylward. That was around 1974.

The band's addition was completed with an addition of saxophonist ( Lochi MacIntosh for a brief period, later Ralph Carney), keyboardist Harvey Gold (who joined the band in the RAGS days as an organist), and Chris Butler (another guitar).

The band's sound is associated with so-called 'Akron music scene' (DEVO, PERE UBU), and they were embracing a wide palette of influences, the Canterbury Scene, Krautrock, avant-rock, art-rock and proto-punk: if you're enjoying the particular names, here it goes - CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, FRANK ZAPPA, HENRY COW, SOFT MACHINE, GONG, CARAVAN, FAUST, CAN, AMON DUUL, DAVID BOWIE, MOTT THE HOOPLE, THE STOOGES and VELVET UNDERGROUND.

I'm glad each of those influences is evident in the band's sonic picture, notably on their 'Contents Dislodged During Shipment' album from their heyday, 1979.

The band became inactive inthe early 80's, and started touring and releasing new material in the 90's: they released Disinformation in 199, as well as some previously unreleased material. The band stopped performing in 2008, after Mark Price died of cancer.
