Manic Depressive Psychosis biography
Formed in 1990, MANIC DEPRESSIVE PSYCHOSIS is a highly important band in the history of Armenian progressive rock. Their initial offering was the cassette release Usurper of the Sun Rays in 1993, an effort blending elements of heavy art rock and psychedelic progressive rock. Just one year after this production the band almost disbanded though, but when two musicians from armenia heavy metal outfit Soma joined the ranks MDP were able to live on. This new line-up recorded a single straight away, consisting of the suite The River - a creation heralded as one of the most important and influential compositions ever made by a progressive outfit in Armenia.

MDP then relocated to Russia, to try to estbalish a viable music career there. While there they recorded and released the EP Take Your Nibbled Apple Back in 1995, a venture exploring a rather peculiar form of experimental progressive metal.

After this effort the band went into hiatus for a while, but in 2000 the band are back in Armenia, and issue their second full length effort Vibrographus. This would also eventually be the name of the recording studio and event firm later set up by the band. In 2002 the single Falling in Love / Should I followed, now seeing the band exploring a style closer to acts like Portishead. This rather offbeat effort from this band failed to reach popularity though, and this stylistic adventure weren't explored any further.

In 2003 MDP isued the live album MDP Live, the last official release by this band. At the time of it's release MDP had also finished setting up their studio, and for the next couple of years studio work and organizing various music festivals were given priority. MDP played quite a bit live in the following years though, but in the fall of 2007 the live activities went into hiatus. An album planned for a release at the end of 2007 failed to appear as well, and if this is a result of MDP splitting up or merely a hiatus caused by other issues is not known.
