Candiria biography
US outfit CANDIRIA was formed in 1992, consisting of Carley Coma (vocals), Chris Puma (guitars), Eric Matthews (guitars), Mike Holt (bass) and Kenneth Schalk (drums). They aimed at creating unusual music from the very start, incorporating barks and rap-like vocals, jazz- inspired rhythm guitar textures and polyrythmic drumming. But without a bassist though, as Holt left the band shortly after the formation, and after two unsuccesfull and short-lived replacements the band toiled on without a regular bassist.

Their debut as recording artists came in 1995, with the single Deep in the Mental quickly followed by their first full length effort Surrealistic Madness. In 1997 founding member Puma left the band, replaced by John Lamacchia (guitars), and 1997's Beyond Reasonable Doubt was the last album featuring this Puma on guitars.

In 1999 Mike MacIvor hooked up with Candria, and with a consolidated line-up Candiria started pursuing their career actively. For the next few years concerts and recording sessions followed each other in quick succession. Three more full lengthy albums appeared, in the shape of The Process of Self-Development (1999), 300 Percent Density (2001) and The C.O.M.A. Imprint (2002). But while touring supporting the latter effort, the band's career literally came to a screeching halt. On September 9th their touring van was rear-ended in an accident involving an eighteen wheel tractor trailer. All members were critically injured, and hospitalized for an extensive period afterwards.

Still, just 2 years later they managed to record and issue a new album, aptly named What Doesn't Kill You.... But the band as such wouldn't be quite the same again. Lamacchia left the band following this release, although he did rejoin when the band were working on their next release. Matthews left in 2005, partially due to the injuries suffered in the accident.

Eddie Ortiz (guitars) temporarily joined the band when they started working on their next album in 2006, but when it was finished Schalk decided to leave, which in turn lead to McIvor leaving as well. Their record label refused to issue the finished album as well. All of these events stopped the progress of Candiria's career pretty effectively.

In November 2008 their label unexpectedly issued an unfinished version of their unreleased album on various electronic distribution platforms. The remaining band members, Lamacchia and Coma at that point, then too...
