Nought biography
NOUGHT is an instrumental band from Oxford, England, helmed by guitarist James SEDWARDS who played occasionally with the Greenwood brothers of fellow Oxford artrock band RADIOHEAD.

The group began life in the nineties with Alex PICKARD(drums), Heini LONERGAN-WHITE(bass), Alex WARD(saxophone,keys,guitar) and SEDWARDS leading. In 1997, the band joined the fledgling indie label Shifty Disco and released their debut EP, 'Red Rag'.

Over the next few years, Sedwards would refine the band's sound, replacing Pickard with Johnny MITCHELL and White with Santiago HORRO in '99, releasing a full, eponymous album in 2000. In '05, Luke BARLOW settled into the role of NOUGHT's keyboard player to this day but the band has not yet released another album (although Shifty Disco frequently places their songs on compilations). However, they tour frequently around South England, and have developed a healthy following as they continue to expand their live shows.

Though Sedwards started jamming with RADIOHEAD, NOUGHT has taken a very different musical direction than the Greenwoods' band. The ensemble plays purely instrumental music, always heavy, and with an occasional jazzy or Krautrock bent which usually ends up getting compared to the guitar freakouts of classic bands as King Crimson or Can, as well as more recent outifts like Primus and Sonic Youth. A touch of sax, keyboard and avant noise keep things from getting repetitive, but the sound will always be loud.
