Hume biography
In 2005, Washington,DC guitarist/bassist Britton POWELL started recording original music of ever-increasing expanse in his garage. Over the next few years the project would take the form of various groups, culminating in a tour with dual drummers & bassists and three saxes that performed one 30-minute piece POWELL wrote while in India.

Finally, dissatisfied with not having a proper tight-knit band, he drafted drummer/synthist and old associate William KEMP (whose own solo project MACAW is very interesting), as well as Christian BRADY[guitar] and Joey DOUBEK[bass/multi-inst.], both of MASS MOVEMENT of the MOTH. After months of rehearsals, the 'Penumbra' EP was issued in September 2010 and 'Inverse Fireworks' the next year. Independent label Sockets Records has also released the limited imprint 'The Phat Daughter String Quartet'.

HUME's post-Mathrock is both whimsical and complex, reflecting POWELL's love of the better elements in prog rock. The DC City Paper writes that the group "deftly splices the quartet into some heavy reggae riddims, sounds kind of like ARVO PART paying a visit to BLACK ARK."
