Hung biography
HUNG is a Melodic/Progressive Death Metal band based in New York City, but don't take their sound as a given after reading this description since the band members definitely have a few surprises up their sleeves! Right off the bat, with its unusual line-up of electric violin and guitar switching off on leads, HUNG challenges any Death Metal fan's perception and expectations. The music often shifts between brutal and aggressive riffs to eerily beautiful melodies to virtuoso passages. The song arrangements are often epic in scope while maintaining its own distinct and cohesive style.
Lyris HUNG, the electric violinist, founded the band with guitarist Jon CLARK (aka Evil Jon) and bassist Sam ROON in 2005. Moscow-born growler Dmitry KOSTITSYN takes the frontman position while Kenny GROHOWSKI keeps the rhythm section in place with his percussion work.
Though the members of HUNG share a love of metal, they each have a wide array of musical influences, ranging from classical to jazz and rock. They brought these musical experiences together, creating a sound that combines familiar sounds of Death Metal and strikingly coherent progressive arrangements.
The band recorded their first EP, titled Matter Of The Blood, in 2006 following it up with Progeny EP in 2007.
In addition to recording music and playing live, the band also has an active roll in the New York metal scene with HUNG Productions, their own event/show production company, and their partner site NYCMetal.com, co-founded by bassist Sam ROON.
