Opposite Earth biography
OPPOSITE EARTH was a relatively short-lived progressive metal band, hailing from Tampa Bay area of Florida, USA. The band acted in the 90's and their last known line-up was: Steven VINCENT (Vocals), Gary SCHEMNITZER (Guitar), Mike STANFIELD (Bass), Rick RISBERG (Keyboards, ex-ICED EARTH) and Joe LOPEZ (Drums). They released two demos, ''Omed'' in 1993 and ''Visuals'' in 1994, which both received positive reviews from inside the US, in Japan but also in Europe from acclaimed magazines such as Heavy Oder Was?!. The band then came into agreement with Separate Entity Management and started recording material for their debut album. Although being offered a record deal by a major metal label, they decided to sigh with Progressive Arts Music Label (a division of the Conquest Music Group), as a label specialising in progressive music. ''Headspace'', their debut and only major release, was recorded at Morrisound recording studios in Tampa, Florida, and it was the third collaboration of the band with producer Tom Morris (CRIMSON GLORY, KREATOR, CORONER etc). The album was released in September 1997 by Progressive Arts.

The album shows the evolvement of their sound towards a more sophisticated but also groovy approach, maintaining the roughness of their previous releases. Their music is a mix of aggressive, melodic heavy/thrash, but also doom and alternative metal, involving Middle-Eastern melodies and influences from a wide range of styles and bands such as PSYCHOTIC WALTZ, METALLICA, ALICE IN CHAINS and SOLITUDE AETURNUS.
