The Death Cobra biography
Lurking behind the Brisbane based band THE DEATH COBRA'S music is an alien menace...actually, it's just a self penned mythology that lurks behind them and features an alien menace, grounding the group's more conceptual moments (much like other irreverent, experimental outfits, such as WEEN and GONG). According to that mythology, the band began in 1963 with the EP Hello; however, the band's subsequent albums - Deafdefier, Reptilian Agendas and Polycorn Sessions respectively - were all mysteriously released throughout 2011.

In practice, The Death Cobra is a project helmed by guitarist and synth player Tobias DE MAINE and drummer Niko VILETIC (the duo is sometimes joined by Warren GREAVES). Together, they produce a brand of sludgy, psychedelic instrumentals that sound like they were made by a jam happy MAMMATUS with a heavy fusion backbone, ala THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA, and are branded with KING CRIMSON-esque titles like "Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Blues" and "The Tyranny of Small Decisions". The band is unafraid to add narration and sound effects when fleshing out the music in the studio, and their live shows around Queensland are augmented with creative light and video displays.
