THE A BAND

The A Band biography
The A BAND were formed in Nottingham as a British music collective in late 1980s. Basically at first they'd been founded as the backing band (beginning with the letter A) of a saxophone player named Vince EARIMAL but they've performed since then as a free-form, improvisational rock combo without Vince (but only his credit in respect for the founder). A core of members was based in Kettering, Northamptonshire around Neil CAMPBELL, Stewart KEITH and Stream ANGEL. By 1990 these members had moved to Nottingham and the focus shifted there, and Richard YOUNGS joined soon after (he recalled that Jim PLAISTOW and Neil were the only constantly present members). They never performed under the moniker of A BAND really (occasionally credited as The A-BAND) but the releases (including several cassette releases, an LP on Siltbreeze and a 7" single) were almost always credited as A BAND. They say "some archive recordings later saw daylight; a CD of recordings from 1991 was issued in 1997 and live activity, also from 1991, was given a vinyl release in 2002, the material being edited by Richard with artwork from Neil and Jim". Sadly the original collective came to a halt around 1994.

In April 2007 The A BAND were reformed by many original participants and performed at the 4th Festival Of Improvised Music at the Pyramid in Warrington, upon June 16. Since then they have performed several times in London, Edinburgh (UK), or Sydney (Australia), with a variety of old and new, different members for each performance and have recorded for a forthcoming double album.
