Guardian Angel biography
GUARDIAN ANGEL was a progressive melodic power metal band from Athens, Greece, formed in the late 80's. Their early style was much closer to power/epic metal, reflected in their 1990 demo ''Travelling by the Wings of Eternity''. In 1994 they released a 7'' through Cygnus Records that showed the first signs of their turn to progressive metal. This was confirmed three years later with the release of the mini-CD ''Oblivion Seas'' through Metal Mad Music. Before disbanding, they released a two-track demo entitled ''Promo 1999''. An oxymoron is that GUARDIAN ANGEL were voted at the 3rd place in the category of ''Best Greek Band'' in 1998 in the annual voting made by Metal Hammer's (GR) readers and at the 1st place in the category ''Best Future Hope'' in the annual voting made by Metal Invader's readers in 1999! The last known line-up of the band consisted of Alexandros STAVRAKAS (bass), Manos MATSOS (percussion, drums), Panayiotis DIAKOYIANNIS (guitars) and Nikos ROUSSAKIS (vocals) while other known ex-members of the band were Theodore ZIRAS (ex-ICE DIVINE, EUROFORCE) and Thanasis HATZIAGAPIS (SORROWFUL WINDS).

GUARDIAN ANGEL's ''Oblivion Seas'' represents the only 'main' release of the band and will appeal to fans of melodic progressive metal. While creating their own sound, they drew influences from early FATES WARNING and the melodies of SOUL CAGES, among others.
