School Of The Arts biography
School Of The Arts was a project conceived by the deceased Terry T LAVITZ best known as a member of DIXIE DREGS (joined in 1979) and a member of the GRATEFUL DEAD cover band JAZZ IS DEAD. This project resulted in one album in 2007 where LAVITZ played the acoustic piano and composed most of the band's material. In this project he was joined with DIXIE DREGS bandmates Steve MORSE on acoustic guitar and Jerry Goodman on electric violin (also in MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA and SHADOWFAX), drummer Dave WECKL and guitarist Frank Gambale from CHICK COREA and John PATITUCCI (also from CHICK COREA and amongst too many collaborations to list,he worked with Herbie HANCOCK and Wayne SHORTER of WEATHER REPORT). Mixing the obvious talents and experience of all the people involved, School Of The Arts reached a high level of musicianship rooted in jazz that leans toward fusion, with ocassional crossing of genres like country, blues and classical music.
