Ulan Bator biography
Named after the capitol city of Mongolia, ULAN BATOR was one of the first, if not the first French band to be labelled post-rock. Formed in Paris in 1993 by vocalist/guitarist Amaury Cambuzat, bassist Olivier Manchion and drummer/trumpet player Franck Lantignac. They were originally influenced by the CAN/NEU!/FAUST branch of Krautrock. Their first self-titled album was released in March of 1995. In 1997/98 they toured with FAUST. The 2000 album 'Ego:Echo' was produced by Michael Gira of SWANS and released on his Young God label. Since then their music has become slightly more accessible, coming close to indie-rock at times. Their earlier albums are great experimental post-rock with Krautrock and industrial influences.
