The Body Lovers biography
THE BODY LOVERS was the first post-SWANS project from Michael Gira. After deciding to disband his long time band in 1997 he created instrumental music in a similar vein to some of the music on the SWANS album 'Soundtracks For The Blind'(1996). Named after a solo song from SWANS member Jarboe, THE BODY LOVERS created a more ambient style of music compared to what Gira & co. were used to making. In addition to other band members the project included more avant-garde oriented artists like Kurt Ralske, James Plotkin and Mika Vaino. They released one album called 'Number One Of Three' in 1998. Despite the title there never was a follow up album, Gira focusing on his folk oriented group ANGELS OF LIGHT instead. A release of leftover material called 'The Body Haters' was released in 2005.
