YBO² biography
Japanese avantgarde rock unit YBO² (pronounced as "ibo-ibo") were founded in 1984 principally by Masashi KITAMURA, who had been the first chief editor / founder of a Japanese independent music magazine titled Fool's Mate. They've been considered as one of Japanese indie-rock pioneers, featuring complicated sound structures based upon polyrhithmic beats and hysterical voices / shouts, around 1990 in Japan. Their first 7' "Doglamagla", soon followed by their first album "Alienation", was released via Trans Records (owned by Masashi himself, closed in 1988) in 1986.

They've been also renowned as a gateway combo for promising avantgarde rock musicians (e.g. Kazuyuki KISHINO, Tatsuya YOSHIDA, or Mitsuru TABATA) but were disbanded in 1990, after releasing their major-debut album "Starship" via Victor Records in the previous year. Masashi sadly passed away in 2006 although they were reformed for a short while in the beginning of 21th Century.
