Founded in Bordeaux, France in 2009

Based in Bordeaux, France, THE GREAT OLD ONES was founded in 2009 by Benjamin GUERRY (guitar and vocals) as a one man project with a mission to capture the creeping dread of H.P. Lovecraft's universe with cold atmospheric black metal. In 2011, after meeting fellow guitarist and vocalist Xavier GODART, Benjamin decided to organize and establish a full band, which elevated the band's notice by providing the opportunity for live gigs. With three guitarists in tow by the addition of Jeff GRIMAL, and with Sebastien LALANNE on bass and Leo ISNARD on drums, THE GREAT OLD ONES released their first full length, ''Al Azif'' in 2012. Their follow-up full length album, ''Tekeli-Li'', is an even more experimental effort than their debut, with layers of density and stronger post rock aesthetics propelled by Leo's intricate drum work. With numerous shifts in tempo, ambience and ferocity, musically they reside somewhere near the stylistics of acts such as FEN and ALTAR OF PLAGUES, but the strong Lovecraftian imagery concerning both music and lyrics adds an extra layer of utter strangeness to their sound.
