Gletscher biography
Despite the hometown being San Diego, GLETSCHER is actually a Zurich-based project conceived by singer/guitarist Joileah CONCEPCION along with drummer Raphael PETER. Formed in 2011, the band released their first album entitled ''Devout'' in January of 2014 with Marc YSENSCMID on bass, featuring a sound somewhat reminiscent of TOOL during their ''Lateralus'' era, but with Joileah's feminine croon providing a unique flair to their style. Their sophomore full-length album, ''Die Einöde'', was released in March of 2015. Recorded using numerous guest artists providing bass duties, the music is more complex with jagged time signatures and a more experimental approach to guitar rhythms, yet the stripped down approach of a three piece act remains constant. Also including elements of post-metal, GLETSCHER's quirky brand of progressive metal is also recommended for fans of post/math rock including one of Joilah's other bands, SLEEPING PEOPLE.
