Mechanical Butterfly biography
MECHANICAL BUTTERFLY is a project founded in 2006 by two guitarists Alessio ORANGES and Dario LALETTA uniting their varied and often disparate influences. The band featured flutist and keyboard player Giovanni VALASTRO on their first self-titled EP, a collection of four instrumental progressive rock tracks, using sampled sounds to substitute the missing drums and bass.

Subsequently, the need to reach a complete line up led to the integration of drummer Andrea ZAPPALA, bassist Giuseppe PADALINO and keyboard player Laura BASILE. Finally, in April 2007, the line up was completed when vocalist Francesca PULVIRENTI joined the group.

The band composed three new songs and rearranged an instrumental one in order to entwine a vocal line into it. In this way the second Mechanical Butterfly self titled EP, also containing four tracks, was produced in 2008. There was however a new, more refined look to the new EP as the band had recruited Gianlorenzo Di Mauro to do the cover. In the meantime, the band participated in different local competitions winning several of them, and collected hundreds of reviews and radio airplay.

In 2010 the rhythm section of the band changed as Toti BELLA joined the band on the drums and Gianlorenzo DI MAURO on bass. DI MAURO was short lived and a year later was replaced by Roberto MARANO.
