Big Farm biography
This supergroup which formed in 2009 but released its only album in 2013 is made of four very skilled musicians who perform a mix of jazz and experimentalism with a strong Newyorkese flavor. RINDE ECKERT (Vocalist, Lyricist, multi-instrumentist, composer and performer) has been finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama in 2007. The Dutch bassist MARK HAANSTRA has won the Dutch Jazz Competition with the Nemesis Quartet (1994), Geel (1998) and Agog (2002). He teaches at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen. The German born STEVE MACKEY (Guitarist) is an avant-garde composer. He's known for his composityions for electric guitar and string quartet and has performed as soloist with the Kronos Quartet. He has several graduations and Ph.D. and is professor of music at Princeton University, where he teaches composition, theory, twentieth century music, improvisation, and a variety of special topics. JASON TREUNTING (percussion) has several collaborations with artists like has collaborated with artists and composers including Steve Reich, David Lang, John Zorn, Dan Trueman and Zakir Hussain and achieved a master in music at the Yale University.
The four have already collaborated in various projects in the past and have released their currently unique album for New Amsterdam records.
