3 stars "Violent Hippy Remixes" is a rather nice compilation of modern trip-hop and trance remixed best tunes from HIDRIA SPACEFOLK by themselves. One could be afraid by seeing the word "Remixes" on a progressive rock release, but the tracks featured here are by no means simplistic techno rearrangements, but offer rather another gaze on the musical "ambient jungle" spirit of the band, making some pieces looking very different from the originals.

The disc alternates relaxing and upbeat passages, which reminds me of THE ORB and PROPELLERHEADS. Some remixes are a real success, like "Agents Entropos Part "2 and "Pangaia", which new version is literally mindblowing with its flute and its jungle rythms. Unbelievable, Can't get enough of it! Some other remixes are less interesting.

Although as not very progressive, this compilation of HIDRIA SPACEFOLK's remixes by themselves should please fans of the band, as well as OZRICs, THE ORB and ambient music lovers.
