3 stars PIKE 182 - 25 DAYS TIL HALLOWEEN: WINDOW FRAGMENT is the 81st album rereleased by BUCKETHEAD in 2015 and the 7th installment in the countdown to HALLOWEEN. This is another totally dark ambient horror soundtrack that sees BUCKETHEAD creating all sounds and effects. Another PIKE close to the thirty minute mark at 29:50 and this is another where all the tracks are named after the album title, in this case ten. All the tracks seamlessly blend together so in effect this whole thing is a half hour haunting!

This is another creepy parade of noises with no musical structure whatsoever. There are little snippets of creepy music that do emerge but basically this is everything from creaks and shattering glass to freaky wind instruments. I would imagine this is all synthesized and contains sounds unknown to the natural musical world. One sound emerges from the nether and hangs about for a short time while another creeps up on it and overtakes it. There is always a creepy ambient background to support any startling noises that emerge.

I find this type of stuff the most difficult to review because it is so outside the world of my and probably everybody else's musical experience if this can be called music at all. Is this some kind of pointillistic musical masterpiece like those of Karlheinz Stockhausen or other similar avant-gardists? I know not for nothing emerges for me to compare it to. Between the grumbles and what sounds like haunted Tibetan prayer horns and myriad other bizarreness, all i can say is this is yet another successful trip to freaksville aka BUCKETHEADLAND. Sometimes the 'music' turns into a laugh and then it sounds like it's boiling away. I am a freak too so I do enjoy this though although i would go insane if i listened to this every day! Not quite as good as some of the other HALLOWEEN spookathons. So you really wanna keep the trick-or-treaters away? Just play this!
