4 stars Drosophila Road is a solid entry into the contemporary progressive arena. It does well to capture and mesh Guru Guru's instrumental prowess and goofy attitude with Captain Beefheart aesthetics. Throw in a dash of Zappa and some Gong space jams, and inclined parties are in for a winner.

Layers of instruments highlight the many mood and tempo changes, assuring the listener new discoveries upon repeated listening. From simmering classic heavy rock to indigenous tribal freakouts, the vintage rock sounds on this album are sure to please the adventurous rock audiophile. The accessability of the artists' eccentricity is the real charm, as the weirdness never goes too far.
