'Who Set That Fire' uses significant prog elements and mixes them with indie and doom portions. LIRD VAN GOLES defines the motto 'let us set the focus on the essence - less show - more substance'. A quite confident guitar dominated album of this swiss band which has developed an unique style in the meanwhile. And not conventional for some reasons which also means that hopes for a commercial success are not really indicated - sad to say.

Starting to listen to the album you're first confronted with a way out trippy begin which forces you to ask: have I got the correct one here? The majority of the songs are instrumental even though Simon Reichmuth has a good voice and is singing in english respectively italian which can be checked out on United Kerosin. The band is often acting with doubled guitar which gives more volume to the songs.

I can hear propulsive stoner rocking parts in the vein of Queens Of The Stone Age, provided with Black Sabbath similar doom as on Indoor Cuhurum Dooom. More sophisticated art rock plus psychedelic leanings is offered with the instrumental Phase III. And Zisch appears with decent piano alike additions which rounds the song up. Bravo! Transport Your Bodies And Leave even reflects an eclectic style near to King Crimson with suitar and skilful placed samples. In the end Walk In Holy Ghostwood//Time's Going On delivers a krautrock spacey atmosphere dominated by the moog synthesizer - somewhat sinister for another new impression.

LIRD VAN GOLES has worked out a tricky song collection. This makes curious for more. Rather convincing even with a total length of a vinyl production. And I'm quite sure they haven't revealed their full potential yet.
