5 stars The ultimate Iron Maiden Concert

I remember the days when cassette was king and got a fat double case (two packages glued together) of Live after Death and played it in my old KP-500 until the tape broke due to the heat, what a great recording.

Then I got my VHS which also suffered the same faith (destroyed because of excessive use) and forgot about Maiden for some time due to my interest in new bands, but a couple of weeks ago I went to the National Stadium to watch the band and eve when the concert was not what I had expected, the next day went to the store and bought the 5.1 Life after Death DVD.

WOW, had forgotten why I heard and watched this concert so much, is simply spectacular, everything is designed for adrenalin, the Egyptian stage, the opening with Churchill's voice leading to the frantic Aces High, from start to end you want to see it standing up to believe you are in the concert.

Even Bruce Dickinson seems absorbed by the energy, in one moment he's singing and running with Dave Murray on his shoulders and in the other talking as a scholar about Samuel Taylor Colleridge's work and Queen Victoria Addiction to marihuana.

Won't talk about the tracks, because all are well known and reviewed ad nauseam on the site and because you are paying for the emotion, the best performances are the usual suspects Number of the Beast, The Trooper, Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight and of course the fantastic epic Rime of the Ancient Mariner all with a new life, all boosted by the strong connection between the band and the audience.

Of course the bonus material is an outstanding gift.

Even if you a one of the persons who believes Iron Maiden should not be here (I believe they are crucial in the birth and development of Prog Metal), you should get the DVD, mostly if you are tired of watching Yes playing the same ten or fifteen tracks or terribly recorded Gabriel Genesis bootlegs, get Live After Death, you wont regret.

5 solid stars for one of the best Prog (or Prog Related) DVD'S ever recorded.
