5 stars Intention. If ever there were an album about incredible grooves, tight performances, and exceptional music it would be near impossible to argue that this wasn't it. What's more, the album's pace is mesmerizing. It isn't in a race for you to gain something monumental just by listening, it operates on its own terms. Fortunately, its terms demand nothing, save for your enjoyment. The album is very dense with novel ideas (aided by the vast array of guitar features that propel each song into its own more unique expression) be they fun, catchy grooves, blisteringly fast solos, interesting production, or whatever else the band throws in that makes each song unmistakably their own. If the impression wasn't clear enough already, this album is based in its grooves. The melodies on this album seem to be made by the well trained ear of Tim Henson and created in the same way he demonstrated in "How to Write a Riff" on their YouTube channel. Each melody is then paired to an intricate groove and insane drum part. While this process may disgust some, it makes for some of the most interesting 4/4 guitar rhythms and some of the most universally appealing instrumental rock music. In my experience sharing this album with around 50 people every single one of them enjoyed it. The songs by themselves are dynamic, interesting, infinitely repayable, and things of beauty. Each song is so well crafted on its own that it's easy to forget how well they flow as an album too with each making you feel exactly as needed for the next song. This is an album worth evangelizing for and well deserve a 5 star rating.
