Beautiful Scarlet
3 stars It's okay. When I saw how short the songs where and the bios mention of Syd Arthur I had low expectations of outdated psychedelic rock. That is not what the Boot Lagoon is. The songs may be short but they are without a doubt Canterbury Scene and have a rightful place on the archives.

The Boot Lagoon released this EP in 2012. It consists of four songs the first two flowed well, sounding like one piece as do the third and fourth, though not quite as smooth. The music is inoffensive and jazzy with small amounts of vocals so you know this is the Canterbury Scene. I like the first two songs nice saxophone work, the third track is not so great right from the start with meh singing annoying violin and repetitiveness. The third has a harsher guitar tone, returning to the sonic scape of the first two tracks as Sax also comes back.

Largely unremarkable this is still a good debut with solid bite sized Canterbury Scene. Unfortunately, this band has released nothing in the nearly ten years that have passed since the writing of my review today.
