4 stars ZACHT AUTOMAAT are a duo from Southern Ontario and the name of the band is another variation on SOFT MACHINE this time the Dutch version. Yet the music is more in the CLUSTER and at times HARMONIA realm and yes there are some Jazz moments here as well. This particular album consists of two side long tracks where we are taken for a long ride with many twists and turns on our adventure.

"Dead Slow" is the 17 minute opener and check out the powerful atmosphere! This is getting close to being apocalyptic. It does settle a minute in and it's kind of spooky. It kicks into an Electronic driven section, it's like were on a train that's rushing out of control. An atmospheric calm follows after 5 minutes. A stark sound dissolves into guitar and percussion after 8 minutes. Check out the inventive animal sound around 10 1/2 minutes. A driving and pulsating sound takes over with experimental noises, keyboards and more. Electric piano and a calm after 15 minutes then an urgent beat 16 minutes in with atmosphere galore before it winds down to the end.

Track two "No Wake" is 18 1/2 minutes long and it opens with organ flights, atmosphere and more. I'm surprised by a walking bass line, like old school Jazz along with keyboards. It picks up before 2 minutes and I'm thinking Electronic again. Some organ runs here too. Piano leads 5 minutes in as it turns uptempo. Interesting sounds before 9 minutes then the organ leads the way with water sounds? Drums and organ after 11 minutes while organ and atmosphere ends it. I'm strangely drawn to this album despite not being into some of the sounds. These guys sure know what they are doing. A solid 4 stars for this soundscape music.
