3 stars Degree Absolute is an unknown progressive metal band from Oregon, USA who manage to come so far with one album selftitled in 2006 released by Sensory. The music offered by this band is quite complex, guitar dominated and with and impecable musicianship. The problem here is the songwritting, some pieces are totaly unintistring and with out good ideas, elements repeated throughout the entire album living in the end a so so reaction, at last from my side. The complexity and manner of aproach of this band remind me, as sinkadotentree observed of Fates Warning, Zero Hour and here and there of Redemption. Three musicians are involved here, the most prolific one and the one I like most is Aaron Bell, who's voice fits very well in this context, he is coming from another metal bad named Defyance. The music is complex, dense, lots of turns and breaks, great drumer, musicianship top notch , some good ex are Exist or Distance, they have aswell lots of instrumental passages, just to be aware of what this guys are capable of. So overall a good album for sure, but I prefer 10 times more Zero Hour for ex. Anyway a 3 star release, pleasent and fairly , I can't give an upper star, a good album but with enough unintristing moments that made me cut some stars from rateing.
