5 stars One year after the band's massive hit of The Death Defying Unicorn, which showcases the band forming a more avant- prog push in sound and style, the band would do a 180 and go back to their more psychedelic jams within Still Life With Eggplant. However, do not let this discourage you, because in my opinion this is the best Motorpsycho album ever, and one of my favorite albums of all time.

Motorpsycho shouldn't be underestimated. Even when they make a more "back to basics" record like this, they always find a way to craft something completely new each time. That is why they are considered eclectic prog on progarchives. Here, we get them really working out the kinks of the previous psychedelic records, and put a lot more emphasis on the bizarreness of the whole psychedelic movement, creating a range of styles from heavy stoner rock that kind of sound a bit like Sleep or Boris, with fun psych rock jams similar to Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, and very lively, almost bluesy songs that take a very summery feel on life. It all creates this very dynamic sounding record that is different, but familiar in the Motorpsycho line-up, which I really love since I can fully take in the absolute power these songs can showcase.

Obviously, the main attraction this album brings is the 17 minute epic of Ratcatcher. I consider this to be Motorpsycho's cream of the crop of epics, with soundscapes that feel very ethereal that bend and weave through these psychedelic wonderfests that give off a very Hawkwind feel to the entire thing. Just how it goes through these immaculate soundscapes that I just absolutely love, it all just makes this album from amazing to almost perfect in my eyes.

I will say that if you want to check out Motorpsycho, start with this album. It holds, not only the band's most concise and well rounded sound yet, but also really showcases them as immaculate prog superstars. This album is one of which I think deserves to be an essential part of any record collection, and one that really made me love this little band from Norway.
