5 stars Blimey! it's so difficult to write a review of an album that you've heard countless times and that has famously appeared in the film 'Galipolli 'starring Mel Gibson . Where does one start?

I know where I'd start -

Where the hell did Jean Michel Jarre get all that equipment?! I'd have given my right arm to get possession of those electronics in 1976.

I'm led to believe he'd recorded a couple of none too impressive earlier LP's. But Still... Where on earth did this spring up from? Just out of the f??????g blue like 'Nice guy Eddie' said in Reservoir Dogs? It makes no sense. Those keyboards and production values in '76 must have been gargantuan.

Tangerine Dream are obvious comparisons. But in '76 they were still intriguing and creepy ... Whereas 'Oxygene' is purely an electronic synth affair in a far more beautiful and musical way than Tangerine Dream ever were. Complete with an all round sense of accomplishment, it well and truly sounds like the finished article with no tinkering or re-edits required.

'Oxygene 6' is one of my favourite tunes of all time. Sounding reminiscent of the 'Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy' incidental music from '81. Simply Beautiful in a lying on a beach in the sun shine kind of way.

I still can't get the image of Mel Gibson copping it in the trenches of the Dardanelles though. Damn... That film spoils things...
