S TOBOM DIJELIM SVE

Unlike his debut album "Svaka je ljubav ista..." here we can talk about the real solo effort of Davorin Popovic as singer. INDEXI were again present (Kovacevic-Redzic-Kisic-Jurin line-up), but this time only as studio musicians. Most tracks were written and/or composed by their longtime collaborators, Kornelije Kovac, Ranko Rihtman and Kemal Monteno. Keyboardist Nenad Jurin was producer and he made a polished pop sound including the contemporary and fashionable "synth-pop" and "new romantics" arrangements.

The resulting album titled "S tobom dijelim sve" (Eng. "I Will Share Everything With You") is a mixed bag of highly cheap and mediocre songs filled with loads of synths and drum machines out of which only few tracks may retain your attention. Interesting cover design associating with famous sleeves of Klaus Doldinger's PASSPORT (here is Davor's ID card displayed instead) albums cannot sadly cover up a weak musical content.

"Ona je dala" (Eng. "She Said Yes") is the best song on the album. Dark tones, a "film noir" lyrics with a sort of "neo-prog" arrangement, layers of synthesizer keyboards reminiscent of a "light" version of SUPERTRAMP's "Crime Of The Century" certainly stand out.

The closer "Omesti treba manijake" (Eng. "We Must Stop The Maniacs") is another highlight where you can hear some keyboard work that should not be out of place on post-Gabriel GENESIS albums. Unfortunately, a silly chorus spoils this otherwise interesting song with, for Davor and INDEXI, atypical "social commentary" lyrics by Dusko Trifunovic, a key songwriter of the Sarajevo pop scene of the 1970s.

Synth-pop with nice female backing vocals and groovy bass lines make "Hulje, pice i zene" (Eng. "Rascals, Booze And Women") the last worthy track on the LP. All that remains is better to be skipped.
