JUNE 2010 REHEARSAL

Some months ago when I visited Primus website, I realized there was some music free to download, and when that happens with a band I like, I do not hesitate at all, so I downloaded it.

In this EP named "June 2010 Rehearsal" we can listen to four old and well-known songs by this original and unique American trio, whose leader Les Claypool can easily please the listener with his outstanding bass playing. It is important to say that yes, he might be who leads the band, however Larry Lalonde on guitars, and "Herb" Alexander on drums created together freaky but quite interesting music.

The first track is "Pudding Time", which comes from their first studio album "Frizzle Fry", the bass sound is really strong and makes evident its leadership, the vocals have a distinctive sound, might be weird but do not sound bad at all.

The second comes from "Sailing the Seas of Cheese, it's named "American Life". If you are a bass player, then I bet you will try to play this song because its sound is quite addictive. I like this piece a lot because despite of its constant repetition, I feel more and more interested with the minutes, at least in this version. The long instrumental passage is fabulous.

"Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread" was taken from their "Brown Album" and might be my least favorite track here. The music has some kind of comic sound, which is another characteristic of this band. However this track does not really do anything to me, it is nice, but that's it.

And "Harold of the Rocks" which was one of their first tracks, featured on their 1989 "Suck on this" album. This is actually a pretty interesting track which could be a great example of what Primus music is about. This longer version has some extra elements that make the song even better.

If you know the band, then take advantage of this facility and download it, the versions here are different from the originals, here are longer and with new elements. And if you don't know the band, this free 26-minute EP could be a decent place to start, if you can enjoy these four songs, then you will be interesting in their music. So go to the website and download it. My final grade, three stars.
