PEOPLE WOULD REALLY LIKE SPACE-ROCK IF THEY WOULD ONLY GIVE IT A TRY

I've been on a RADIO MASSACRE INTERNATION binge this past week.This particular album is the thirteenth cdr released by the band and it's a live one. An interesting album in that it really is a transition recording of sorts. And while you normally wouldn't give a live album this tag, the truth is that this recording marks their first expansion into the realms of Space-Rock. It says so in the liner notes. So while I like the guitar here i do miss the mellotron.This was recorded live on April 28/03 at the National Space Centre in Leicster.The band mixed and edited it almost a year later.

"Falling Off The Captin's Log" opens with sounds that beat and pulse as it slowly builds.The guitar is making some noise before 3 minutes. Drums 5 minutes in and the guitar is lighting it up. It settles back some around 9 minutes as the guitar grinds away.The guitar stops 11 1/2 minutes in. "In A Not Silent Way" has this beat with electronics. Guitar 2 minutes in. Experimental sounds around 9 minutes. It starts to settle back around 11 1/2 minutes. A spacey calm 13 1/2 minutes in. "Bring Me The Picture Of Yuri Gagarin" opens with sequencers then it turns spacey 1 1/2 minutes in. Guitar a minute later and he starts to rip it up. Drums 9 1/2 minutes in.This is excellent.The guitar backs off before 14 minutes. It settles even more 17 1/2 minutes in but it's brief as it picks back up. It's building again. Great sound. A calm ends it.

"23 Craters Full Of Some Sort Of Moondust" is spacey as experimental sounds come and go. It turns haunting before 5 minutes as it calms right down.We get some spacey outbursts late. "The God Of Electricity Oh No Not Again" is easily my favourite track and unfortunately by far the shortest at just under 4 minutes. Love the guitar and beat here. It becomes quite beautiful as well. "Star's End" has these intricate sounds early on and the bass is prominant after 2 minutes. I like the keys and guitar 5 1/2 minutes in. It starts to get spacey a minute later then it backs off.

I miss the mellotron, and while there are some really amazing sections this album is almost 80 minutes in length and as such has a lot of average passages in my opinion.
