1 stars Different isn't always better...

Pat Mastelotto joins Tony Levin for his fifth studio album.

The Good: Speedbump.

The Bad: After years of bemoaning the mediocrity of Tony Levin's solo releases in comparison to his work with other bands he finally pulls out all the stops and goes for broke. This unique and highly experimental recording is full of ideas and far more bass orientated than previous efforts.

But is it enjoyable? In short, No. Listening to it is a bit like sitting through a lecture on the inner workings of some intricate phenomena. Whilst it may be interesting to those 'in the know', for the rest of us mere mortals it just results in utter boredom for the best part of an hour.

The Verdict: Gonna stick with SMV from now on.
