2 stars It's always a courageous move to try and make a one-song album. Nektar decided to take the challenge with this one. They abandoned most of their psychedelic Krautrock influences in favour of a sort of progressive hard rock style that sounds sort of like a prog version of "The Who". While I'm okay for change and all, something about this just doesn't fit for a song so long.

First lets look at the positives: here we have some pretty catchy guitar riffs, good solos and musicianship all around, and some solid lyrics. The song feels cohesive for the most part, unlike some long songs that just feel like a bunch of smaller songs glued together. It's also pretty accessible for a song of this length.

Now with the negatives. The vocals are sort of lackluster. Also, as a whole, this album can be quite a bore. It just doesn't stand the whole 35 minutes. And the filler! A lot of parts seem like just that. Uninspired wastes of space. This would work a huge amount better if they took a few of the catchier riffs and sections, and made a nice 8 or so minute song out of it. It just doesn't feel like it needs to be 35 minutes in length. There are also repeats of earlier parts in spots where it just doesn't seem called for.

So in conclusion, I wasn't totally satisfied with this one. Had it been shorter, I might have enjoyed it a whole lot more. But this really doesn't need to be an "epic". 2 stars.
