3 stars Renaissance fans swear by this live album, but personally I find it rather unconvincing. The recording quality isn't what it could be, and for the most part the band don't do anything interesting with their material which they didn't accomplish better in the studio versions. The songs on the first disc sound more or less exactly like their studio equivalents bar for some audience applause, the version of Scheherazade opens with the band taking entirely too long to explain the concept before they commence to play though it. and anyone drooling at the thought of a 20+ minute version of Ashes are Burning should be aware that it includes an absolutely tedious bass solo from Jon Camp.

If you are a major fan of Renaissance and love all the albums the songs here are derived from (Prologue, Ashes are Burning, Turn of the Cards and Scheherazade), you'd probably really enjoy this album, but if you like them that much you don't need a review site to tell you whether or not to pick up a release. For anyone who, likes me, finds them a bit hit-or-miss, it's decent but much less compelling. Three stars.
