3 stars This is the newest VERMA offering, three jamz recorded for a cassette split production released on Paramita Recordings, a collaboration with the bands Shapers and Soundings. Both are also hailing from Chicago and deep into psychedelic and space explorations as well. The VERMA quintet plays some kind of space and kraut mix, definitely trippy and trancy. All the three tracks are just under the 10 minute mark. Something special is the moderate presence of a viola here which cares for an unique flavour.

Space is open starts with a rather ambient outfit based on oscillating synths, after three minutes though they fall into a groovy drive, definitely hypnotic provided with Can appeal. The following Deathsport meets my taste far more due to a halting trippy rhythm coupled with a slight oriental touch. While swirling around each other synths and cosmic guitars are working hard for a fascinating flow step by step.

The sound quality is not at optimum, I'm missing the trebles, it's a bit tubby overall, but probably with intent, who knows. However the band shows potential here when thinking in space rock terms. Each song picks up a simple motif and then they let it flow while spinning a fine sophisticated web based on slight variations furthermore. Certainly not that easy in opposite to aimless noodling. You can give it a try, just visit their bandcamp page.
